‘Untold lives lost…’

In the article “An eternal war” on Forskning.no, journalist Marianne Nordahl writes: “Israel has occupied the Palestinian territories of Gaza and the West Bank since 1967. In this period untold human lives have been lost on both sides of the borders, and hate in the region has grown.”

As it happens, the Israeli NGO Bet’slem puts the number of Palestinian lives lost, over the last twenty years, at 7 400. Compare this to the cost of the first war in Chechnya and the civil war in Algeria during the nineties, both of which cost approximately 100 000 lives. If 7400 Palestinian lives are “untold”, what happens to the death toll in the Congo?
