Ivar A.Iversen is one of Dagsavisen’s bright young things, always eager to pick up on legitimate criticism of Israel while turning a blind eye to the state of Israel’s neighbors. On July 31st he comments upon, surprise surprise, a US debate initiated by Joe Klein of Time Magazine who had suggested that the US had gone to war in Iraq on behalf of Israel. Mr.Iversen’s piece is appropriately titled “USA to war for Israel’s sake?“.
Mr.Iversen writes (unauthorized translation):
The debate is reminding of the equally furious reactions which arose when political scientists John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt last year published an article on the influence of the Israel-lobby on American politics. The two are well reputed political realists, and argued for how it was necessarily in the interests of the USA to follow the interests of the present government in Israel. They were immediately accused of being anti-Semites.
This, Mr.Iversen points out to his readers, is how things go in this crazy world. Sadly, he does not explain how his readers benefit from being exposed to a constant barrage of legitimate criticism of Israel, while far worse atrocities go unnoticed in other regions of the Middle East.
