Hate speech of the day: a poem

The “eclatante” poem  below is a talkback to an oped on Nye Meninger, the debate forum for the Labour mouthpiece dagsavisen on June 29, 2011

The oped deals with the failed flotilla, and is, in and of itself, insignificant, riddled with homemade definitions of international Law, but in the end risible, although it does trigger an urge to curl toes and fingers in deep embarrassment for such lack of knowledge.

My jaws however, drop open with disbelief and disgust on finding this talkback, even worse, that the moderator would let it slip through:

Det fins ei heslig hellig ku           There is an ugly holy cow

i Midt-Østen et sted                     Some place in the Middle East

og kua heter Israel                       The cow’s name is Israel

det borger ei for fred.                  No guarantee for peace

Hu er så stor og stygg og feit     She is so big and ugly and fat

men eter stadig mer                   eating ever more

enser ikke andres rett                 do not care for other’s rights

helt blottet for sunt bondevett.  has no idea of common sense

Den alltid ser sitt snitt              taking every opportunity

tørster etter ditt                        thirst for what is yours

stormer over jord og mark       rushing over lands and fields

en selvbeskikket matriark       a self-declared matriarch

med djevelsk appetitt-             with demonic appetite

åh huttetu                                oh-brrr

ei stangvis ku.                        A cow which gores

Kua tror seg selv sakral               the cow sees herself as sacred

men er jo blitt helt stormannsgal  yet is megalomaniac

den ligger der og tygger drøv       lying there, masticating

gulper opp politisk tøv.                burping political absurdity

Men en dag er nok løpet kjørt     one day the race shall be over

den finner vel sin grav                 probably it shall find it’s grave

på bunnen av Det Døde Hav       at the bottom of the Dead sea

og folk vil undres                        people will wonder

var det drap—                             was it murder

nei dette var nok kugalskap.       No, it was mad cow disease.

The author of the light verse above, Helge Vladimir Tiller is born in 1941, lives in Oslo, and is a regular contributor to Dagsavisen, Norway’s leading left wing daily, commonly regarded as the mouthpiece of the Norwegian Labor party.

Trøst, ja trøst mitt folk. Tal vennlig til Jerusalem!

“Comfort,O comfort My people” says your God. “Speak kindly to Jerusalem; And call out to her, that her warfare has ended, That her iniquity has been removed, That she has received of the LORD’S hand Double for all her sins.” – Isaiah, 40, 1-2
