The seminar is part of the World Week for Peace in Palestine Israel (WWPPI), an initiative of the Palestine Israel Ecumenical Forum (PIEF) of the World Council of Churches (WCC) that aims to gather voices around the world for advocacy and action in support of a just peace for all in Palestine and Israel. In order to raise awareness of the recent escalation in the incidents of forcible relocation of Palestinians and confiscation of Palestinian land by the Israeli military, the focus for the week in 2012 is “displacement and dispossession,” or “Hjemmefra” in Norwegian. The WWPPI takes place from May 29th to June 3rd, 2012.

Responsible for the WWPPI in Norway are: The Church of Norway Council on Ecumenical and International Relations (Mellomkirkelig råd for den norske kirke), The Karibu Foundation Norway (Stiftelsen Karibu), The Norwegian Church Academy Movement (Norske Kirkeakademier), Norwegian Church Aid (Kirkens Nødhjelp), The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Norway (Vennenes Samfunn Kvekerne i Norge) and Y-Global Norway (KFUK-KFUM Global).

In light of this, it gives me great satisfaction that the Church of Norway no longer is the State Church, according to an amendment to our Constitution that came into effect on May  21, 2012. From now on, the Church of Norway (which will still be the official name?) will have to manage its own matters, but without the explicit support of the Government. I wish them good luck on their way into oblivion!
