The Embassy of Israel will remain at Parkveien, behind the Castle, for as long as the Embassy wants themselves. The municipality of Oslo has surrendered its demand over the dismantling of the security wall facing the neighbors.
The Councilor for Urban Development, Bård Folke Fredriksen (Conservative) tells NRK he intends to make a final decision in what is twelve years old controversy.
“Oslo is a capital; this means we have a responsibility towards embassies and foreign offices of representation. Our residents depends on good embassy services, it is natural for them to have security measures for as long as there is an embassy there”, he says.
Nor do Fredriksen find this wall to be particularly unsightly.
“This wall is about two meters tall; only five meters of it is any problem when it comes to cultural protection. Balancing between security and the protection of culture, security takes the first place”, he says.
This case took on a new turn as the cultural heritage authorities approved a security fence of equal height surrounding the Prime Ministerial mansion nearby, making the CPP parliamentarian leader demand equal protection before the law.
