JEWISH SETTLEMENTS ON PALESTINIAN LAND GROWING QUICKLY

Also in several other news sources

The population of the Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank is growing at twice the pace of the population in Israel.

This is reported by the Israeli military radio, based on official statistics. This information is likely to increase Palestinians skepticism towards new negotiations.

According to the radio, 7700 new settlers have arrived in the West Bank, not including East Jerusalem. Thereby, the total figure of settlers in the West Bank is set at 367 000.

This implies a growth of 2.1 percent through the last six months. The Israeli population growth is at 2 percent annually.

The construction of settlements in the occupied West Bank is regarded as contrary to international law by most countries.

The Israeli “Peace Now” NGO, being against the settlements, is accusing the government of encouraging Israelis to settle; among other through issuing them with free land for housing.

SHIMON PERES- THE ETERNAL LOSER

Dagens Næringsliv 2013 08 03

Åshild Eidem, Not Online

Summary. A long, and rather balanced biography over Shimon Peres, most likely the desk is behind the heading. A multitude of sources has been used, covering his 90 years of life. Unfortunately, one of these sources is Hilde Henriksen Waage, using this opportunity to describe Peres as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing”, claiming he was backstabbing Yitzhak Rabin.

MR ISRAEL AT 90

Verdens Gang 2013 08 03 p 24

Harald Berg Sævareid, Pay wall

Summary.

Homage to Shimon Peres at 90.

Quotes:

“One should believe a politician who has been Minister of Defense, Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister, and now being 90 and still being President of Israel should only receive praise and good will. And Shimon Peres receives this in these days, to a full measure. At a high age, having a quick, witty and sarcastic tongue, and an exquisite intellect, a full score on the popularity scale is very likely”.

“It is not rare for the Israeli president to be something of a loudmouth. For this reason, he is still the most interesting politician in Israel, in spite of his ceremonial role”
