Life is like a wheel. Sometimes you’re up, other times you are down. Tundra Tabloids reports that Jussi Hallo-Aho, once fined for having quoted the Koran (he selected the wrong quotes), now is head of Finnish immigration policy. So he was down, but now he’s up. This kind of thing can easily happen here in Norway too. People who are up now may soon come tumbling down, while people who are down may rise up. Maybe in two years time or so, it will be Sidsel Wold(NRK) and Harald Stanghelle (Aftenposten) who will be doing the blogging, while we israelwhat guys will be running the mainstream media? That would be fun. linkscolor = "000000"; highlightscolor = "888888"; backgroundcolor = "FFFFFF"; channel = "none";

This site has repeatedly demonstrated how the Norwegian media is biased against Israel, among other here. Now the Tundra Tabloids (Finland) and Sweden, Israel and the Jews (Sweden) and Ilya Meyer (Sweden) have made similar findings. Ilya Meyer excerpt In an average month of 30 days, there are never more than 3 days without some negative reporting on Israel in the publicly-funded state TV (SVT). Check out the news function on teletext and on a minimum of 27 days out of 30, there will be a story about Israel. Not about Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Somalia, Bangladesh. The standing joke in Sweden is that one can always tell when there is a new employee at the taxpayer-funded SVT, because that is the day there is no anti-Israel item on teletext. New recruits never make the same mistake twice, if they wish to keep their jobs. Tundra Tabloids excerpt “The Tundra Tabloids conducted a 90 day research project on Middle-East reporting in Finland, focusing on the newspapers, the Helsingin Sanomat and Keskisuomalainen, from the beginning of February to the end of March. On an average, the HS reported on Israel once every 1.3 days, while the KS every 1.6 days”. SIJ excerpt [...]

Development Today reports (screenshot above) that Finland is aiming to join her Nordic neighbors as a global peace negotiator. When it comes to the Middle East, Finland might indeed prove to be better suited for peace mediation than Norway. Unlike Norwegian politicians, Finland’s politicians do not wear kaffiyehs to work. Neither do they actively lobby for boycott of Israel, as the Socialist Left does in Norway. Finland does not finance a host of NGO’s engaging in lawfare against Israel, and Finland does not see riots and attacks against Israel and Jews such as those narrated by Eirik Eiglad in his book “The anti-Jewish riots in Oslo”. It is true that if we look at history, Finland did hand over a number of Jews to Nazi-Germany, with whom they were allied in their common fight against Stalin’s Soviet Union. But Norway did far, far worse, rounding up the Norwegian Jews and sending almost half of them to die in the camps in Poland. Norway needs to acknowledge that its anti-Israel lobby is too strong for Norway to have any part in further peace negotiations in the Middle East. Finland might be better suited for such work. linkscolor = "000000"; highlightscolor = [...]

In Finland councilman Jussi Hallo-Aho has been fined for violating the freedom of worship, after having exercised his own freedom of expression by criticizing Islam on the basis of the contents of the Quran. Now professor Timo Vihavainen, from the University of Helsinki, speaks out in support of Mr. Hallo-Aho. In the Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat, the professor states: It is a typical story of the intellectuals, going on the cheap. Finnish intellectuals awhile ago took a wrong step into Stalinism, but it have not learned anything,” For Norwegians this sounds oddly familiar. Our own elites had a fling with Maoist politics in the sixties and never regained their balance afterwards. Read more about professor Timo Vihavainen and councilman Jussi Hallo-Aho on Tundra Tabloids (in English) and on HS.Fi.Uutiset (in Finnish). linkscolor = "000000"; highlightscolor = "888888"; backgroundcolor = "FFFFFF"; channel = "none";

This would not be the first time that the government of Sweden would take the lead in combating anti-Semitism in Europe . In January 2000 the Stockholm International Forum on the Holocaust was organized by the Swedish government to raise awareness about the Holocaust and to prevent it from happening again by educating new generations about the deadly virus of anti-Semitism. Recent reports from Sweden seem to indicate that the need for education is now more urgent than ever. In March 2009 a Davis Cup match in [...]

Finland is to Scandinavia what Scandinavia is to the rest of the world: largely inaccessible due to the language barrier. There is no way of knowing what goes on in there without mastering the language, and since the Finnish population is only 5 million (give or take) and Finnish is a notoriously difficult language to learn, most people don’t bother. Luckily there is Tundra Tabloids (TT) to interpret, here on journalist Jukka Huusko’s coverage of the recent Human Rights Watch report on IDF atrocities, in the Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat: The same can be said about the Helsingin Sanomat, which is reflected in the way Huusko wrote his report, “Israel kertoi omassa raportissaan tutkivansa noin sataa tapausta sotilaidensa väitetyistä rikkomuksista Gazassa. Näistä kolmestatoista oli käynnistetty rikostutkinta. Israelin omassa selvityksessä on mukana kaksi tapausta, jotka löytyvät myös HRW:n raportista. ” / Israel said in its report that its investigating hundreds of reports in which there are about a hundred cases of soldiers being charged with crimes in Gaza. In Israel’s own investigations there were two incidents that were also found in HRW’s own report.“ What Huusko leaves out of course, is that any complaint, whether it’s from an Arab or a Jew, [...]

Philosemitism is an excellent site, covering most of Europe and with quite a section on the Nordic countries – including an excerpt from this article on Finland, by Michael Freund in the Jerusalem Post. It is worth reflecting upon how Finland offers none of the traits or events which so frequently scar Norway - no shooting at the synagogue, no marches with people chanting for jewish blood, no screaming of “Kaybar, kaybar, ya yahoud”, no prominent citizens engaging in holocaust inversion. A place where Israel is loved Tucked away in a far corner of northern Europe, the tranquil and resourceful nation of Finland often gets unjustly overlooked. Flanked by a swaggering and increasingly quarrelsome Russia to the east and its larger and blonder Swedish neighbor to the west, the Finns seem to receive neither the attention nor the consideration that they rightly deserve. Indeed, despite being beset by harsh winters and a dearth of arable land, as well as enjoying the dubious distinction of being the European Union’s most sparsely populated country, Finland has nonetheless built one of the most pleasant and peaceful societies on the entire continent. There is little crime and virtually no political corruption, and public places are [...]
