At a time when the rest of the world are slowly, ever so gradually starting to notice the atrocities that go on in Syria (but also many other places on our beautiful planet), one would have thought that the Norwegian People’s Aid would at least have mentioned the word Syria, somewhere, anywhere, on its web pages. But nope, not a word, yet NRK, who cannot find too much muck to write about Israel, now finally is reporting on the slaughter that goes on in Syria. But the Norwegian People’s Aid rather feel that the focus should be singly put on Israel, so they have published a blog where in addition to the usual “specialist” knowledge, that Israeli settlements are in violation of international Law. Interestingly, this is being repeated ad nauseam, but could we please have the reference to the international court final verdict that confirms this is so – last time I checked, this was far form being an established truth. Nevertheless, on and on they harp, here a translation of one of their blog entries. The author, Kjetil Østnor is a representative of the common committee on Palestine, whilst at the same time being a prominent member of [...]

Wearing a crash helmet here now, still complying with ‘ealf & safety, even while I am rolling on the floor laughing out loud! Lifted from miff.no, but also featured in Dagen, although surprisingly not very much reported in mainstream media: Imports from Israel increased by 11 percent to a record level The Norwegian imports from Israel rose more than the overall import from other countries. We bought Israeli goods for NOK 722 million in 2011, compared to NOK 653 million in 2010. by Conrad Myrland The general increase in Norwegian imports, ships and oilplatforms excluded, was 9.3 per cent from 2010 to 2011. Imports from Israel rose by 10.7 percent, according to figures presented by Statistics Norway. Never before have imports from Israel have been greater. The previous peak year of 2008 is off by almost NOK 15 million. Imports from Israel increased more than imports from the Nordic countries (6 %), EU (7.8 %), United States (8.1 %) and the OECD countries(9.6 %). It is slightly lower than the overall increase in imports from Africa(16.4 p%) and Asia (12 %). Also the Norwegian exports to Israel rose from 588 million in 2010 to 622 millionkroner in 2011. - It is very gratifying to see that trade with Israel is increasing, says Conrad Myrland, general manager of With Israel for Peace. - Powerful forces in Norway are working for a boycott of Israel, but Israel has fortunately such strong and competitive goods that embargo supporters can’t manage to get the general population to rally behind the calls for boycott, says Myrland. The Christian daily Dagen adds this information (by Ove Eikje) I am not surprised by these numbers. The main reason is simply that we need electrical components, and they are largely made in Israel, says professor of economics, Ola H. Grytten in a comment. The previous best level for Norwegian imports from Israel amounted to 707.3 million kroner in 2008. The preliminary figures for the Norwegian foreign [...]

The Occupy Wall Street movement has proven to be flash in the pan, but nevertheless, it has managed to inspire some Norwegian nincompoops: “Occupy” movement. HERE, THE NORWEGIAN OCCUPY MOVEMENT Dagens Næringsliv 2011 12 16, Anna Werenskjold Summary. Dagens Næringsliv lampoons Norwegian copycats of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, among them one Anja Askelund, a student/activist and member of the “Green Party” of Norway. The newspaper seems less than impressed by their efforts and their attempts at “direct democracy”. As for Ms. Askelund, she is the author of this poetic gem: ABC Nyheter 2009 01 19 Dear Jew, dear desperado. Your hands are filled with blood, you are doing the unforgivable. You kill our defenseless brothers and sisters. You send bombs from a distance; they are closed in, and cannot flee. Arms and legs are torn off. Our brethren and sisters die and are mutilated. We, the world community, let it happen. Our brethren and sisters are worthless, their lives mean nothing. Any hope over a decent life is smashed. Dear Jew, dear dewserado. You are scared. Of course, you have done the unforgivable. Now enter Gaza. See these people. They yare also scared, they have lost their dear. They [...]

Ministry of Government Administration, Reform, and Church Affairs Press release 2011 12 02 No signature Summary. The Minister of Government administration, reform and church affairs, Rigmor Aasrud, is to visit Jerusalem. She will speak to religious leaders on Israeli and Palestinian side, and visit religious sites. Among her visits, one will be a visit to the Augusta Victoria church in Jerusalem, to see an exhibit by Norwegian artist Håkon Gullvåg; which will open on December the 16th. The exhibition is sponsored by the Norwegian Ministry of Government Administration, Reform and Church, The Country Municipality of Sør- Trøndelag (the first and only county council that adopted a boycott israel motion), the Municipality of Trondheim, (which regularly sponsors pro-Arab, anti-Israel art), Fagforbundet i Trondheim, the local union chapter that asked The Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) in Trondheim to convert the Mai 1 Labour Day parade into a Pro-Palestinian event. The fourth sponsor is a commercial bank who to my knowledge maintains impeccable neutrality to preserve its commercial reputation. However, three out of 4 sponsors are rabid anti-Israeli’s all coming form what now appears to be the hub of anti-Israel political initiatives in Norway, with the NTNU being their standard bearer.
As one reader commented yesterday, the “international BDS day” on November 26, does not seem like a randomly selected date. Officially, but perhaps only as some sort of paper exercise, Norway recognizes the enormous betrayal of our Jews: Tale/artikkel, 22.09.2011 Av: Utenriksminister Jonas Gahr Støre Stumbling to Remember Kronikk i Yedioth Ahronoth (Israel), 22. september 2011 On 26 October 1942, the Norwegian police arrested all Jewish men. On 26 November 1942, all Jewish women and children were arrested. Nineteen Jews from Calmeyers gate 15 in Oslo – which also housed a synagogue at the time – were arrested and deported that autumn. Today, this is the home of the Oslo Jewish Museum. Of the 65 who were deported from Calmeyers gate and the surrounding streets, only one returned. The Holocaust – the attempt at total annihilation – was a fact. The worst of it unfolded in the camps. But part of that terrible story took place in Oslo, when the Jews were arrested and driven to the harbor. And we must face the fact that this particular link in the chain of events was the work of Norwegians. This remains even though Norway was under German occupation. We must also remember [...]

The anti-Israel movement in Norway is planning to target supermarket chain Coop for their audacity to continue to stock Israeli goods, of any kind and any origin, in an action planned for November 26. It will be interesting to see whether aspiring political leaders will take part in this event – the FB page for this fringe group does not shy away from allowing rancid anti-Semitic remarks stand unopposed, so it will give us a clear indication of the ethical and moral values of politicians or other leaders of our elite, if they choose to participate.
It is not only in Norway that mass immigration from very distinct cultures and sets of values over a short period of time triggers a strong reaction from the native population. All over Europe, it seems the gut reaction is to impose rigid top down regulations, curtailing minority rights that the majority find difficult to adjust to. It is far from the first time in Europe’s history that such restrictions are dressed in a cloak of moral concern. Times may change, but not the ingrained xenophobia that characterizes the European nations. During the good times, when the Euro was king and champagne just the right stuff to wash away any lingering feeling of something is amiss, nobody spoke of curtailing the long established rights of minorities who have lived in Europe for more than 1000 years. Now, with the Euro in tatters, state bonds reduced to junk, a native population that resists the cultural and demographic changes that has been imposed on us over a very short time, people with power, smooth talkers with false concern for health and welfare, think they can calm the mood by removing visual signs of differentness. The religious symbols we want to wear on [...]

I must admit I am at a loss as to what the purpose of Lars Gules never-ending story in Minervanett is. Is it a book review? Is it an essay? Or is it just the ramblings of a man who has fallen in love with his own voice? The good thing I suppose, is that Gule these days does not arm himself with PFLP bombs, but uses miles worth of ink dipped in sleeping potion or some other stupefacient. Nevertheless, his latest philosophical work, appears to be a review of a book by Karin Abraham, Israel – when the peace movement disappeared. Below, some choice excerpts skip jumping the worst of the rambling nonsense that lies between: Most Israelis do not seem to want to give up anything at all, neither territories, privileges or the chauvinistic self-understanding. Not least therefore the road to peace between Israel and Palestine is long a distance away…. ….Another matter is that many Israelis are fully aware that their state is built on stolen land. They must therefore inevitably, probably also sub-consciously (i.e. without developing any sweeping racial (biological) theories of supremacy) harbor ideas that they have a greater right to Palestine, than the Palestinians [...]

The annual NRK telethon this year donates the funds collected to the Norwegian People’s Aid and their work to clear land mines, explosive devices left after war and conflict. The Telethon is a source of national pride, and billions of Kroner have been collected over the years, to in some small measure help ameliorate harsh conditions that unfortunately is a reality for the majority of the worlds inhabitants. This year, several newspapers have informed of an initiative started by a woman on the southern tip of Norway, who sent text messages to friends and contacts, asking them to not give any money to the Norwegian People’s Aid, because they are anti-Semites The long and the short of it, the message was sent wide and afar, ending up at some point with a journalist at Fædrelandsvennen, and from there it was picked up by other papers. The papers’ own reporting on this, can only be said to have been factual, correct and therefore unproblematic. However, reading talkbacks, your hair just wants to stand on end for the sheer hate speech allowed there, which makes the “safety rules” introduced after 22/7, to avoid flaming speech (you must register with full name), look [...]

Yesterday we reported on an anti-Semitic exhibition at Nesbru High School, and how the school, at the time the local newspaper – Budstikka – wrote the story, had not yet decided whether or not to remove the entire exhibition. Miff.no brings us the latest developments (unauthorized translation): Demonization of Israel removed after student protests Published: Thursday 20 October 2011 By Conrad Myrland The annual solidarity project between Nesbru high school in Asker and Palestinian schools is exploited by political campaigns to tarnish Israel. -”October is not a pleasant month to go to school”, a concerned student wrote to MIFF a few weeks ago. The school project, which is organized by the Norwegian Church Aid, has created an eerie atmosphere for Jewish students at the school before. This year was worse than ever, as arts and crafts students Tuesday presented a political art exhibit in support of a Palestinian state. The political message did not stop there, but also contained a crossed out Israeli flag and the words “murder” underneath it. - Each year, posters are made at my school that say “Free Palestine”, “Fuck Israel” or the like, but this made me really shocked, a Norwegian-Israeli student at the school [...]

A local newspaper, Budstikka, brings us an article on how Nesbru high school, promotes anti-Semitism in an “arts” exhibition for and by their students. An Israeli student was deeply shocked and offended when she came to school and found a crossed out Israeli flag, with the words murder underneath it. As an Israeli I feel personally offended and unwell when I come to school, says the half Jewish student who wishes to remain anonymous. The Israeli flag with a red cross through it is part of an exhibition prominently displayed in the central hall of Nesbru HIgh School.. The student reacts very strongly to such an exhibition. – What the school does, is crass anti-Semitism and racism. They claim to have zero tolerance against bullying, but this is precisely what it is, bullying. A school should be completely neutral and not get involved in politics, the young woman says. – I do not feel I can identify as an Israeli at this school, she says. According to the article the school has removed the pictures from their home page, but have not yet made a decision on whether or not to remove parts of or the whole exhibition (A full [...]

A week or so ago, we wrote on how the Carmel Institute had been uniquely targeted for a proposed tax deduciton ban for donations destined to project within the disputed areas of Judea and Samaria. Now, the Carmel Institute says such a measure would be very unlikely to have any dampenign effect on donors, since they are ideologically motivated. In an interview with Dagen the leader of the organizations says that it is unlikely that they Government will find support for the proposal in this years budget, citing rules that for any changes, organizations must be adviced well in advance in order to inform customers, etc. He goes on to call the measure meaningless and lacks proportions: I lose all my confidence in the system, when so much effort is put into stopping a small organizations like ours. This is nothing more than an attempt to gag political opponents. The Socialistic Left party lost badly at the last municipal election, and barely made it above the magic 4% support in order to be eligible for parliamentary representation. With Socialistic Party essentially beat to pulp by the Norwegian electorate, they badly need some victories to show to their dwindling voter base. [...]

Reform (resource center for men), likens male circumcision to female gential mutilation, according to an article in Dagen. In a press statement related to their deposition on the public hearing on male circumcision, they say As a resource center for men, we question the use of boys’ bodies as involuntary carriers of religious, cultural or parental motivated practice . Gender discrimination Reform thinks that circumcision of boys, even when performed under medically safe conditions and only relates of excision of the prepuce, is detrimental also for boys. Circumcision of girls is prohibited in Norway, and parents who take their baby girls to the country of origin, where said practice may be common, risk penalties when returning to Norway. By this, Reform equals genital mutilation of girls with male circumcision. – Circumcision of girls is regarded as totally unacceptable, but is applauded when it comes to boys. We regard this as gender discrimination, which is not in line with the ideals of equality that must be the basis for the Norwegian society. In order to underline this idea, Reform organized a press conference with a Danish researcher, Professor Morten Frisch, who has published an article on sexual dysfunctions and difficulties in [...]

The leader of Fellesforbundet (The Norwegian United Federation of Trade Unions), Lars Frøysa wants to boycott the Israeli Histadrut, on the grounds that it is an apartheid organization, according to an article in Vårt Land This is an organization only for Israeli Jews. In our world this is apartheid. We think that the labour movement has an obligation to protect all workers, says Lars Frøysa. He is leader of the local chapter at Celsa Armeringsstål in Mo i Rana, who has submitted the motion. He further claims that in spite of the Union’s rejection of the proposal, he is convinced that they will prosper at the ballot, since members are free individuals. Our old friend Hilde Henriksen Waage, the historian and researcher who on occasion slips into activist mode on Israel related matters, has been consulted (apparently nobody was available at the Histadrut for comments, but that may reflect a certain insensitivity and ignorance on Jewish matters, since probably they were closed for Yom Kippur observation (in addition to the weekly days of rest for workers, in Israel on Friday and Saturday): From its inception in the 1920ies, Histadrut was am important instrument for the Zionist movement in the construciton [...]
