"Mowgli made leader of the Bandar-log" by John Charles Dollman
On August 3rd US Senator Brownback wrote a letter, expressing concern over Israel-hatred and anti-Semitism, to Norway’s ambassador to Washington DC. While this site published the letter on August 12th, Norwegian journalists failed to find it newsworthy. Members of the opposition [...]

Not even in Scandinavia does democracy work flawlessly. Is there an invisible hand at work?
In the screenshot above (left) we see an op-ed from yesterday’s Aftenposten, with Eirik Vatnøy from Civita, a liberal think tank, asking some rather poignant questions. Vatnøy points out that it appears as if [...]
Norwegian ME pundits agree that the upcoming talks will fail. Here is how and why they might be right, for the wrong reasons.
According to conventional Norwegian wisdom, the logic runs like this:
The Middle East peace talks can only be successful only IF Obama applies pressure to Netanyahu BUT if Obama applies pressure to [...]
German ThyssenKrupp builds submarines and tests them in Norwegian fjord. Now a regional division of Labor “expects” that the government refuses ThysseKrupp to test two submarines which are to be sold to Israel.
The last seven days we have seen VG point out that the Ministry of Defence is actually boycotting Israel in violation [...]
Tromsø.no reports that the municipal council of Troms, in Northern Norway, has blockaded a proposal of a boycott of Israel. From Tromsø.no (unauthorized translation):

This is an update to the previous post on how the Government Pension Fund is de-vesting from two more Israeli companies. The opposition is now pointing out how hypocritical this is, as long as Norway continues to invest in countries with worse human rights records than Israel.
Business newspaper E24 reports the following reaction [...]

Roger Hercz is to Dagsavisen what Tzipi Livni said she refused to be to Netanyahu – a fig leaf of decency. As the first journalist in Norway he finds the Senator’s letter to be newsworthy enough to mention it in today’s newspaper, a full week after this site published it for the [...]
Roger Hercz is to the newspaper Dagsavisen what Tzipi Livni said she refused to be for Netanyahu – a fig leaf of decency. In today’s paper he claims that Norway plays a larger role in the Middle East now than ever – as a midwife to the Palestinian state, and that in emphasizing [...]

It is a sad fact that Israel is one of the only countries on earth, except perhaps Burma, with which Norway has “chilly” relations. With all other countries, including Israel’s authoritarian neighbors, Norway gets [...]
Aftenposten, front page July 15th
Aftenposten today lets us know that membership in radical Islamist groups may give grounds for asylum in Norway. The reasoning goes that Norway cannot be certain that members of such groups, if evicted from Norway, will not be tortured or killed in their home countries. This is the Mulla-Krekar-logic again. [...]
Norway’s interests lie in the nordic region, with the EU, USA and with Russia. As for the Middle East, we obviously need to cooperate with OPEC. But how is it noble and necessary of Norway to seek to be the midwife of a Palestinian state? What psychological and political mechanisms are at work here?
Aftenposten today [...]
