Unlike his prompt, however misplaced condemnation of Israel back in June, when Syrian demonstrators broke a fence and entered Israel, our good FM Støre has finally found the opportunity to condemn the Jerusalem Mufti’s call for murdering Jews. However, he had to be prompted to do it; it was only after a letter from Dagfinn Høybråten, a member of Parliament, representing the Christian Democrats, that FM Støre officially took a stance. Here is the story, as delivered by dagen.no Støre deplores the Grand Mufti’s statements Norway deplores the statements from the Mufti of Jerusalem that “the day of redemption for Muslims will come when they start to kill Jews.” The Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) says this in a written reply to MP DagfinnHøybråten (KrF). By Tor Weibye - This is a remarkably positive response because the foreign minister will take this matter seriously, Høybråten says to Dagen.no. The Foreign Minister writes in his response that the Mufti Husein’s statement appears to be hostile to Jews and are not likely to create confidence between the parties. - I will ask our office in Al Ram to meet the mufti to express that Norway is opposed to the statements he made during the ceremony. Totally unacceptable Høybråten maintains that the Mufti’s statements, whether quotes or anything else, are totally unacceptable. - These statements are made by the leadership, from quarters where one would expect a more responsible attitude, and they were made as an intrinsic part of a celebration in favor of the ruling party. This makes it imperative that Norway clearly marks our position. - So I am pleased that the Foreign Minister will take this very seriously and that he has [...]

The Oslo local court has sentenced the Ministry of Justice and Police to remunerate the man with 75 000 NKR in damages; and 25 000 in actual legal costs. The man, in his thirties, was arrested with Arfan Qadeer Bhatti in 2006; being charged with shooting at the Jewish (sic) synagogue in Oslo. In 2008, he was acquitted of all charges. Bhatti was found guilty over being accessory to the shooting, but was acquitted over terrorism charges. The demand for reparations was in response over them a feeling he was branded a terrorist, and as the case was subjected to extensive media coverage, where he was identifies with his names as well as his picture. This coverage was of an aggravated nature due to the internet, the court finds it of no doubt this man has been subjected to large exhortations, the verdict says. linkscolor = "000000"; highlightscolor = "888888"; backgroundcolor = "FFFFFF"; channel = "none";

It is not only Norway that behaves abysmally in the face of the escalating conflict in Syria. Sweden too, tries to sell an image of supreme righteousness, touts their neutrality, but in reality they are just as two faced as they were in 1940, letting their prejudices and commercial interests come before the needs of desperate human beings. It is not only Norway that bends over backwards to be perceived as the most anti-Israeli country in Europe, they are in good company of the Swedes, and also – when they are not busy explaining fiddling their expenses, or in other ways thieving from the British tax payer – several prominent British Parliamentarians. From the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter Sweden softens sanctions against Syria Sweden blocks the EU from imposing sanctions against two telecom companies operating in Syria. Both companies have business with Swedish Ericsson.Ericsson denies that the technology it sells can be used to monitor people. On Thursday, EU foreign ministers agreed to introduce new sanctions against Syria for 11 different companies, whose technology is suspected can be used to monitor dissidents. But Sweden stopped two companies from ending up on the sanctions list, the state-owned STE and the South Africa-based mobile [...]

If we are to judge by the increasing amount of violent rape, pillage and murder in Norway, it may be wise for nuns and others to keep a watchful eye on leery Norwegians. In fact, the New York Times has picked up on some very worrying trends here in Norway, where cases of violent rape, burglary and murder are soaring. While our government likes to tell the rest of the world how to behave, and above all, resolve problems through dialogue, dialogue and more dialogue, at home they are busy passing the buck and pretending the problem is not there. It is politically very sensitive, because most of the violent assaults and rapes are committed by “foreign” persons, political big wigs and their most obedient lapdogs in prominent positions are quick to admonish us that most of the rapes are committed by ethnic Norwegians at a party or at home. In both instances, the soaring number of, well, rape, pillage and murder, says something about our society and a tremendous failure by the powers that be (the Labour party, the Center party and the Socialistic Left party) to address these blights on our social facade. SPECIAL REPORT: THE FEMALE FACTOR [...]

For the NRK it seems they prefer defensive operations with casualties, so they can once again use the big headlines and twist it, as much as possible, in favor of the terrorists. NRK front-page: “Rocket attack against Israel after death-raid against Gaza” DEATH-RAID people. They actually say DEATH-RAID. Middle East section headline: “Rockets against Israel after Gaza-raid”
Article headline: “Rockets against Israel after Gaza-attack” * Photos: 1. Front page photo: burnt out cars. From Israel, but headline makes you believe it is from Gaza, at least if you know your NRK. 2. Article head-photo: (same as front page) burnt out cars, surprisingly from Israel (very often they only use Gaza pictures).
Picture text: “Several cars and houses was destroyed at Palestinian rocket attacks against Israel tonight” – Not mentioning the injured, and one, as of now, killed Israeli. 3.
Op-Ed: The Hierarchy of Murder Promoters By Manfred Gerstenfeld The logical approach to the issue of attributing ideological responsibilities for inciting to kill should start with those who make the strongest direct calls for murder. The horrific murders committed by Norwegian Anders Breivik on 22 July led to huge debates in many countriesabout who has laid the ideological infrastructure for his crimes. In his lengthy treatise he quoted a large number ofsources. There seemed thus to be many potentialcandidates to blame. Numerous commentators did so gladly. The accused included people who have never called for violence, such as for instance Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders and the author Bat Yeor who coined the term “Eurabia.” Both had strongly condemned the Breivik murders. Another accused was Robert Spencer of the Jihad Watch blog who mentioned Norwegian sourcesblaming him and others for instigating the murders. This debate should have been at most marginal in a far broader context. The logical approach to the issue of attributing ideological responsibilities for inciting to kill should start with those who make the strongest direct calls for murder. The dominant environment for people with such world views is in a number of Muslim societies. According to a study in 2009 by the Pew [...]

The state terrorism myth Op-ed: Arab leaders falsely accuse Israel of state terrorism to hide their own crimes Manfred Gerstenfeld Threatening its own civilians is a traditional mode of state terrorism in parts of the Muslim world. A second type of state terrorism – the murderous one – has recently increased significantly. A few among many examples: On July 11th, Syrian soldiers shot and killed 10 participants in a funeral procession in the town of Homs. During the funeral of Kurdish leader Mashaal Tammo on October 8th in Qamishli, Syrian security forces fired indiscriminately at the crowd and killed five mourners and wounded three. A day later, 24 Copts were killed by Egyptian security forces in Cairo and more than 100 were wounded. One can add many more examples of homicidal state terrorism, including in Libya or Yemen. The principle remains the same: Arab government forces not only threaten their own civilians, but also kill them intentionally. A third type of state terrorism is trying to murder foreign civilians abroad. Recent examples were the planned attacks on the Saudi ambassador and the Israeli embassy in Washington, both ordered by Iran. Murderous state terrorism has extremely vicious precedents. In 1982, the [...]

MIFF (With Israel for Peace) reports on its home pages that young communists harassed MIFF members and stole an Israeli flag at a recent rally in Trondheim. This is the second time in a short time, that young communists harass and attack a MIFF stand and tries to shut down a lawful public meeting, and the umpteenth time that the same sorry sods fail to understand what it means to live in a democracy, namely that everybody has a right to express thoughts, opinions and political beliefs. But then again, communism and democracy were always opposite concepts, and all communist states have failed miserably in providing anything that resembles equality, or freedom to their unfortunate underlings. Notwithstanding, these brats with severe behavioral issues, who have enjoyed every freedom the Norwegian democracy can offer, have taken it upon themselves to decide who can and who cannot express their opinions, and resort to harassment, physical threats and thieving in order to show their gratitude for the freedoms they have enjoyed. MIFF members in Trondheim start to feel very uncomfortable with this situation and consider requesting police protection next time they arrange a rally. The matter has been reported to the police who [...]

In other matters, the mainstream press is quick enough in spreading information, regardless of whether the “news” they produce is actually true, far less balanced. Do they not believe that what the ambassador says actually reflects the truth the PA wishes to impose? I am fairly sure that if some obscure and irrelevant rabbi with a long beard and a knitted scull cap said something a long the lines that Palestinians would not be accepted in Israel, and had this comment published in yiddish in a tiny and totally obscure parish magazine, we would no doubt be informed on the double!
One of the organizers of the Norwegian floptilla, Ships to Gaza, has been given ample room to trash the findings of the Palmer report regarding the Mavi Marmari, since it did not yield the result they so desperately wanted. Hamar Arbeiderblad is happy to provide a stage for unhappy sailors who now have been told that they acted irresponsibly by participating in the 2009 flotilla and contributed to making the situation volatile. On 31. May 2010, the Israeli Navy attacked a fleet of ships that tried to break the blockade of Gaza. Nine activists were killed and 34 others shot, on board the Turkish-owned vessel Mavi Marmara. Of those killed, eight were Turks and 1 Turkish American. Seven Israeli soldiers were more or less injured. The attack provoked strong international reaction and massive condemnation of Israel’s military action against the activists. To find out what went wrong, several investigating committees were at work, one Turkish, one Israeli and two committees appointed by the UN. One was written by the UN HumanRights Council looked into what really happened on board, the other was commissioned by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and had intended to restore good relations between Turkey and Israel. Now both reports are available and the conclusions point in opposite directions. collective punishment The Human Rights Council’s Commission interviewed a large number of those who were involved in the incident, but was denied access to information from the Israeli soldiers who carried out boarding. They went through autopsy reports, and injury to passengers. They went through what was left of evidence Mavi Marmara after the ship was cleared by the Israeli authorities. The conclusion was that the Israeli blockade of Gaza is illegal under international law due to the major impact it has on the population of Gaza, and because it constitutes a collective punishment of an entire population.
With thanks to the friend who drew my attention to this story: Haaretzas well as several Scandinavian, but not Norwegian, news outlets ran stories on how Al Jazeera was closed down in Egypt. To paraphrase my friend: I see nothing in Norwegian media. it is important to draw the attention to this silence – why are Norwegian reports so slow? Is it politically inconvenient ? Are the media again playing with the politially correct? So where did the new freedom of speech g ? Maybe it left Cairo together with the Israeli Ambassador? Even Mubarak didn’t close down Al Jazeera. From Haaretz: Security forces storm Al-Jazeera office in Egypt Egyptian newspaper reports that reason for the raid is that Qatar-based news channel is not officially licensed to broadcast. Egyptian security forces stormed the Cairo offices of Al-Jazeera on Sunday, the broadcaster said. Al-Jazeera said some of its transmission equipment was confiscated and one staff member detained.
Editorials Only Aftenposten included today. 2011 09 12 Aftenposten: INCREASES IN TENSION The attack upon the Israeli embassy in Cairo this weekend, in which three were killed and more than 800 injured, may lead to an escalation of the tensions in the Middle East, to a disturbing degree. There might be reason to harbor concerns over the 32 years old peace agreement between the two countries being hazarded. Israeli authorities have taken an initiative to negotiations with Egypt in order to ensure the return of the ambassador to Egypt, and the reestablishment of normal diplomatic relations between the two countries. We hope these negotiations are successful. It is of decisive importance for a stable development of the neighborly relations between Egypt and Israel that Egypt is capable of ensuring the physical security surrounding the Israeli embassy, as presumed by the Vienna convention. In such a light, it is of concern that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is appealing to the military rulers of Egypt to tighten relationships to Israel, and a crowd of people celebrating those which attacked the embassy in Cairo. The assault on the embassy and the street fighting was partly a reaction to the killing of by [...]

Senior researcher Pinar Tank at Prio, says Israel’s threat to support PKK in Turkey, in fact is a sign that Israel is desperate. The article makes mention of Turkeys furious reaction of having been proven wrong, and its childish severing of diplomatic ties. Tank casts Erdogan’s Turkey as some sort of big brother in the Middle East and paints a picture of a leader who has a lot of self confidence and credibility because he has been democratically elected. Also, she says, because he calls Israel a ‘spoilt child’, he is celebrated in the Arab world. Other equally distinguished researchers in other countries have reached exactly the opposite conclusion, they have said that in spite of political capital in form of a good election results, he has failed to get Turkey into the EU, he has no clout on his friends in Syria, far less in other countries, his bid to enter the world stage as a peace negotiator when he claimed that he and Lula from Brazil had tamed the shrew from Teheran, ended in embarrassment. His feel good policies will serve him for as long as the Turks can put lira into their pockets, but the world economy [...]

Aside from the robust condemnation from our FM, media coverage of the attack on the Israeli embassy in Cairo has been low scale. In a weekend where the worlds attention is tuned to events in New York and nationally, focus on municipal elections take the front seat. That is perhaps a good thing, but nevertheless, I wonder why there is no indepth analysis as to why the Egyptians think they will build a better future for themselves by destroying the Israeli embassy. Some papers have made fleeting mention of the perceived poor treatment of Gaza Palestinians as the driving factor. This is an insult to Egyptians and Israelis alike. Such simplifications not only dehumanize the Egyptians, but also prevents any deeper analysis as to why Egyptians, who feel that the democratization process is going too slow, and who may feel that the military who now governs the country have been a little hard handed in enforcing the law, with more than 68.000 imprisoned post Mubarak – automatically want to gut Israel? Why are we not debating these very dangerous aspects of Muslim anti-Semitism, which do nothing to encourage Israel to “be sensible and give the Palestinians what they want” Scenes [...]
