The Progress Party is usually inclined to support Israel. From With Israel for Peace (MIFF), Norway’s largest pro-Israel organization: During the parliamentary period 2005-2009, 16 out of the Progress Party’s 38 representatives were members of parliament’s Friends of Israel-group. The Progress Party supports the jewish people’s right to a national home. The Progress Party declares its support to the jewish people for a national homeland in Israel and the right of that state to defend its inhabitants. Beyond this, the party does not mention how conflicts with neighboring states may or ought to be solved. “The Progress Party believes it is important to build alliances with similar-minded countries and to support the right of democratic countries to defend themselves against terrorism and threats from neighboring states. We support the jewish people’s right to a national homeland in Israel. The state of Israel is recognized a sovereign and democratic state with the right to defend its citizens against external threats against its existence. ” (From the Progress Party’s action program 2009-2013 Frps Handlingsprogram 2009-2013, chapter “Norge og verden”) “The Progress Party believes Norway should demonstrate its support of democratic states which are subjected to international terrorism or threats from foreign nations.
The Norwegian election is coming up in another six months and Siv Jensen of the Progress Party has attracted a lot of attention to herself by warning against “subtle islamification” of Norwegian society. Jensen has pointed towards the Swedish city of Malmö and stated that the Progress Party will never allow a similar situation to develop here in Norway. No major news about Israel today, but 13 different news sources report the same NTB article under the same title: “Netanyahu confident Livni will cooperate”. An excerpt below: ——————- Livni is for a socalled two-state solution, where Israel coexists with a separate Palestinian state, while Netanyahu rejects this solution. Benjamin Netanyahu led a right-wing government from 1996. But this governement dissolved three years later when the smaller right-wing parties withdrew their support after Netanyahu gave in to US pressure and compromised with the Palestinians. linkscolor = "000000"; highlightscolor = "888888"; backgroundcolor = "FFFFFF"; channel = "none";
